Hey team,
What is the general concensus for general live taping purposes of the MK4 card -vs- the mk5 card?
I know the mk5 has a "presence bump" but does this bump affect live recording adversly? advantageously?
Are the MK5's considered good for live PA taping?
Thanks,

I like the bump in the mk5 - it's all a matter of taste really.
Taping from a distance that little bump could be advantageous.
They're not in heavy use but plenty of folks I know have them or have owned them

I've used both. The MK5s are a bit brighter than the MK4s, which I like. (Then again, the MK4Vs are also brighter than the MK4s, and I don't like them. Whether it's because of the more abrupt bump, or because they're less directional at higher frequencies, I'm not sure.) I really only think the MK5s are worth the extra cash if you also want and will use the omnis. I think both the MK4 and MK5 sound great, but my ears give an edge to the MK5s. I've only used the omnis sparingly, but really like them when in the right situation - usually on-stage or unamplified performances - either with a small split or better yet a j-disc.
At any rate, I think all three - MK4, MK5, MK4V - are suitable for a variety of recording situations. Just depends on your preference, whether you want the omni option, etc.

I have both and they sound virtually identical. What Brian said is right, if you plan on using the omni's then go with the 5's. If not, I wouldn't bother with the extra cash.
In the 5 years I have owned my CCM5's, I have run them in omni maybe 10-15 times. Usually onstage or split at a festival.
I have found the 4's to be REALLY flat and usually need just touch of brightness applied in post.
The 5's are usually just about right without any eq. I prefer the brighter sound from the 5's, but you
can achieve virtually the same thing with 4's by applying a small eq bump around 5k.
CCM!
