>>Mic D sent me an sts9 tape to transfer for him, he taped it on a D8 with a sony dds 90m, i put it in my D100 sending it through the digi in on the ua-5 to my lappy and get the blinking light telling me it wont let me transfer it due to scms.
is the tape the master or a 1st clone?
scms allows you to make 1 digital clone of a master (unless the master is set to ID 01), then no more digital clones are allowed.
>>this is my first experience with a scms warning and its really pissing me off and wishing i had just gotten a m1 instead
i *think*, you'd have the same problem with the M1. M1 will still send the scms flag out digitally. i don't think a pro-deck strips the code, but merely ignores it when it receives the digital signal.
for example, i have 2 prodecks at home for cloning. when i read a tape's ID and notice that it's "01" (meaning "no digital clones permitted"), my recorder will still digtially record even though the incoming digital signal contains scms flag.
>>any good cheap external soundcards out there that are cheap and strip scms, as i dont want to go through this again, thanks for you help guys.
i've been using dio 2496, and it's very easy to use. dio2448 used is about $35 on ebay from time to time. i'm sure other older cards made by egosys, etc. are pretty cheap on the auction block.
hope this helps,
