7.2v NICD Battery/ JB3 Use?

I love the idea of the voltage step down unit made by John2525az, as described in this thread:

With that setup, he was using 9v NICD RC Batteries.  I understand (kind of) the setup and the componets used to make the step down box.

However, searching through my attic the other day, I found a 7.2 nicd battery.  It was from an old RC car that I had years ago, and it came with a charger.  The label reads:

Nikko 7.2 volt rechargable NICD turbo battery pack.  Model #?: 1272, and it says it puts out 1600 mAh.

Is this battery useable to power the JB3?  If so, what adjustments have to be made to the step down box in order for it to output 5.2 volts for the JB3.

Any help would be muchly appreciated!  Thanks so much!

The SIMA seems to be your best option, unless you already have the creative car charger.

That appears to be AC.

you have a few option to get the ~7v to ~5v. 

1.) build your own VR regulator circuit (lemme know if you want to go this route and i can give you some assistance)

2.) Buy a custom VR box from marc

3.) hack a car adapter (adjustible from RS or a real creative one)

there are pros and cons to each solution it really depends on your budget and soldering will/skills

I wouldn't go through too much trouble over that battery.

Nicd have short lives, and that bat is a very small capacity. Prob only run the jb3 for about 1 hour.

Before you do anything make sure it will take and hold a charge. Check for leaks/cracks before you charge too.

I thought I made it pretty clear in the Subject header
It DOES AC or DC voltage conversion . Hense why i liked it better than the wally world version(initial) as this way you dont need to hack anything to get it work for either. And it comes straight out of the box ready to roll. No need to check for polarity On the JB3 tip end as it only fits One way , they Way your need it (tip +)

Many folks have tried to use 7volt batts to do this, which does not appear to work,  As the Sima or Initial Voltage box wants a higher voltage for it to convert .
As I stated in the thread I have used nothing but 9v & 12v batterys Including 12volt SLA and 9volt Lithiums .  I have ran Multiple test using both and have never had a problem.

Again I state , "I tested this ALOT before I posted to this list as I wanted to make sure it was almost fool proof before I had folks frying there Jb3 or something stupid."

If you follow the directions in the thread it will work .

just a heads up here is the SIMA SUP-2 , which others have posted is the same as the SUP-1 it just has a couple other connectors.
