Bean could you get a hold of a camera and take some shots? I would really like to see what's under that screen. You don't need it, but it might be good to have it. Do you have screens under the side vents? The service guy in Nashville (I think there may only be one) doesn't charge too much, so if you wanted some screens put in, I think it would under $60 for both, but you could call and get an estimate. I also found out that the screw on the body that needs to be tightened to avoid the ground hum some people get is actually not supposed to do that job. There is a tiny (1/4") spring that often gets lost when people unscrew that screw. The spring is the only piece that actually grounds anything normally. He also replaces those springs cheap. Random AKG trivia of the day.

out of curiosity, what color is the plastic inside the caps? do they unscrew easily or not so easy? i ask b/c akg changed how they make the ck6x caps. i have one that is about 5+ years old and the very front of the cap doesn't extend out and the inside plastic is clear. the other cap had a grounding issue so i got a brand new one. the inside plastic is white, there is more of it, and the front of the cap sticks out a tad instead of being depressed "in" or flat like the older cap. the cardiod logo is also larger on the new cap....i just found this all amusing.

sorry jon, i was just being an ass about the no screen thing :P

and your totally right about that lil screw, i would have random times when id plug my xlrs into my mics, then into the dmic, and i would get a VERY loud, audible grounding hum, keep that screw tight and you wont run into those dreadful problems

luckily, i caught them before i actually recorded or id have some WHACKED recordings, and FWIW, it took them years to get loose like that

Oh yeah er em cough cough uh I knew that  :P

Jon - both 63 caps are clear inside by the gold pin. I have one 61 cap that is clear and another that is white.

I decided to run them at moe on Saturday and I liked the result, so I don't think I'm going to sweat it - looks like it's just cosmetic. Thanks for all the replies. +Ts
