Best sounding mics with a W+ua5
« on: March 05, 2008, 08:20:54 AM »
I purchased a W+UA5 and iam leaning towards akg 460(480 to pricey for me) audix 1290,1245 1280(for the price) or may adk tl 51 (something different). I have only heard some shows with 480's and 1290,s and they sound nice.
I was impressed with the 1290,s for the price,
Mostly will be taping jam bands some bluegrass nothing to heavy.
any personal preferences will help.
I will most likley rent or borrow to try differnt mics before i purchase. thanks

cant go wrong with akg 45x or 46x. the wmod ua5 was "tailored" to those mics.
mics: (4)akg c460b(a60,mk46,ck1x,ck1,ck2,ck3,ck61,ck63)
pres: oade m148/edirol wmod ua5
recorders: marantz stock671/oade acm671/fostex busman vintage fr2le

I've run C4's and 460's in to W+ UA5 and loved the sound by both.  I run my 460's all the time now.  Love the warm low end you get!

Me too.  They both match well with the warm mod. UA-5, as do the 480s

I pulled some great tapes with Peluso CEMC6 w/card caps. I've even contemplated getting a W+Mod just to have one. Never should have sold mine.
Mics: AKG CK31, CK32>LM 3> MPA III
