Those are "standard" Panasonic WM61 type capsules I bet.  (I recognize the freq response ripped off from their spec sheet, lol).

Nice sounding starter mics.  A nice side effect is the fact that maybe those buds offer some hearing protection as well as placing the mics just right each time.

FWIW, I tried this before.  I epoxied a set of Knowles Acoustics FG series tiny microphones on the outside of set of Shure E3 inear monitors.  Mics > minidisc (plug in power), Minidisc (headphone out) > Shure E3.  So I could monitor while recording.  It worked to a point, but the isolation was not high enough to hear what you are recording.  Aside from "signal present" it is really hard to hear the quality of the sound you're recording.

For that money and if you are getting a set of starter mics, I'd consider these instead:

http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,100123.0.html
Busman Audio BSC1-K1/K2/K3/K4 > HiHo Silver XLR's > Deck TBD

CA-14 (c,o)/MM-HLSC-1 (4.7k mod)/AT853(4.7k mod)(c,o,h,sc)/CAFS (o)/CA-1 (o) > CA-9100 (V. 4.1)/CA-9200/CA-UBB > Sony PCM-D50/Sony PCM-M10

I was looking at the point of view that they could help protect my hearing:)

My second shoice was these SP-CMC-19

The link Belexes gave me looks interesting as well. One thing that concerns me is the cable. Looks a little thick and they are split all the way. I was trying to make it easier to record.

I had been using Sony ECM-719 but the poor thing got wet and crapped itself. I got that because it was easy to attach and I only had one cable to deal with to the batterybox. Seemed to produce a decent recording. This is a sample of what I recorded (takes you to another site)

If you get cardioid's, the AT831s that were mentioned are probably a lot better sounding than the CMC-19's.  Look at that frequency spec on the CMC-19's... 80 - 18,000 Hz, most good mics go down to 20hz.  30 or 40 hz is fine, but not 80.
The same AT-831's that Chris is selling make up the CMC-2 http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-CMC-2 They sell them for $159, Chris sells them for less than half that (because he picked up a deal on capsules).  Plus the frequency range is 40-20,000 Hz.  Much better.  It's a no brainer, if you want cards.

Listen to some samples of Binaurals and AT-831s on archive.org and decide for yourself.
