I have a leatherman but everytime I try to push out on them they fold... =x
My roommate hopefully has a pair in his car.

Are you telling me to stick the pliers in there and pull out on them and turn left?

When I had this happen I was not able to get rid of the adapter with any set of pliers I owned.  I ended up going to sears and getting a drill bit that was made to remove stripped screws.  It sort of looks like a grooved pyramid.  It was about $5 and did the trick pretty quickly.  That being said it ruined the adapter.

some of the adapter sticks out from the vert bar, doesn't it. i seem to remember that. if so, just grab what's sticking out with the pliers and turn left.

Put the quarter in a vice... then you can grab the very bar with both hands and get some leverage.

Get a 3/8-16 bolt, and 3/8-16 jamnut, and maybe a 3/8" lock washer.

Put the jam nut on the bolt, and run the bolt into the adaptor.
Then tighten the jamnut down onto the adptor, until its cranked down tight.
Then take a wrench and apply it to the bolthead, and back the hole adaptor out.

Listen to this ^ Voice of reason....

I have a very large slot head screw driver that spans the slots but MOKE is right on... +T

I'm sure ths is the best route, but you can also put the bar in the freezer for a few minures. The cold will make the metal contract and should "un-freeze" the parts.

Best two tools

1) If it is stuck and shouldn't be, WD40

2) If it is loose and shouldn't be, duct tape

Your problem fits instance number 1
