wtf! Just got home from springfest to discover that my tamron 28-70 zoomer is stuck on the d100. wont twist at all. just got quoted $425 for the repair job. no guarantees on that either. the body and lens aren't even worth that much individually. i guess the plus side is that the camera and lens still work just fine. but i'm still a little frustrated. any thoughts, suggestions?

Sounds like maybe the release pin won't retract? I have a feeling it's a real undertaking to get in there and work if you can't go in through the lens mount. Aside from getting another estimate, it's a good excuse to buy a new camera

Bummer. I'd give everything a good wiggle and try twisting the lens slightly back and forth while pushing the lens release, you might get lucky and get it to come free. After that, as a last resort you might try tapping on the lens lightly with something like a wooden spoon if you are still desperate to get it lens off. There is not much to the mechanism that locks the lens in place so a little tap might free it up. If you do get it apart, inspect it well and make sure there is no dirt or grit that is on the mating surfaces of the lens mounts.

Jake: This car. This stupid car. Where's the Cadillac? The Caddy? Where's the Caddy?
Elwood: The what?
Jake: The Cadillac we used to have. The Blues Mobile!
Elwood: I traded it.
Jake: You traded the Blues Mobile for this?
Elwood: No. For a microphone.
Jake: A microphone? Okay I can see that.

I'd try taking it to a camera show, and asking around a bit
(shutterbug & photo.net has show listings)
good luck

I had a similar problem (they said it was loose elements, but that's bullshit) with my tokina 28-70, but my repair cost $190. Probably more than I should have paid too, but maybe get an estimate from someone else, or the factory.
