Tascam DA-30

I have not had this very long and i think it is a pretty common easy to use machine.  however, i cannot get it to record anything- it looks like it should be pretty self-explanatory.  what might be wrong?  thanks

does it require anything other than pushing the record button?  b/c that is what i am doing and nothing happens.

...   I have never used the record function on this machine but i think the guy i bought it from would have said something if it was broken.  ???

I think you have to hold the record button and press Play to get the transport moving; otherwise it just monitors the inputs and displays levels?

  Thanks.  I tried this but it does not work either. :(  I think it may just be broken.
