FR2LE Seamless File Splits or Not?
« on: June 21, 2008, 06:26:10 PM »
Does this box have seamless file split capabilities or not?  I've read
a couple of posts that contradict each other.  My findings are it
stops when the file size limit is reached.

Also seems to me that there is no way to start a new track without
stopping and recording again.  Is this truly the case?

Evidently it just stops.  Just wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something simple.

Too bad it isn't seemless.

It would be nice to have a "track mark" button that would just start a new track.  I use that all the time on the Edirol R09, on my Minidisc, and even on my old NJB3.  I would just leave the rig recording (so I don't forget to hit record, lol), and if the band took a while to come onstage, or took a brief tuning break, or whatever, I could just mark that track.  Makes it easier to handle the files later on too.

Thanks for the confirmation.  It blow, Fostex dropping the ball big time.

Was hoping not to have a baby sitting job while at the show pounding
down cold ones :-)

Makes me want to record 16 bit so I really shouldn't have to worry about
file sizes for any given show.

24/96 gives about 2 hours uninterrupted recording at a 4GB limit.

24/48 would double this.

It is very rare for any performance to get even as long as 2 hours without a break.

I don't see the problem.  ???

I agree.  Sets just typically don't go that long without a break. I have had no issues when using my FR2LE.

The problem is when you want to leave your rig *unattended*, eg., for multiple acts, at a festival, or whatever.

Perhaps, but I think *most* of us rarely leave our rigs unattended for a lengthy period of time.  Not only would you have issues with file splits but you open your rig up to someone toppling it, beer spills, theft, etc.

2gb split was a huge issue for me with the mt
but 4gb i have no prob with (i don't do 96, only 48)

side note does anyone know how long it takes to hit stop and record again on the fr2le, ie how much time is actually missed?

24/96 might be an issue for some bands that play here.
Michael Burks for example, will often go 2 1/2 hours before a break,
it's brutal :-)

I'm not sure exactly, but don't think it would take long
since the FR2LE writes the data every one minute, so
at best you'd have that last one minute to write and
hit record again.  I can't believe there is no way to
start a new track on the fly.... oh well.

I ran into the 4GB problem at Drive-By Truckers last week. My solution is to run 24/44.1 to increase my record time. Of course I could just pay attention to my recording and start a new one between songs...but that doesn't seem to happen when I'm seeing the Truckers.  :P

Ran 24/44.1 for Rose Hill Drive last night. Sounds great to me.
