So, I typically have been recording nothing but rock & roll shows and have had my levels nice and hot on pretty much every recording I've mastered the last couple of years. I used to do lots of editing, but feel like a total noob here as pretty much every tape Ive done the last couple years has been: chop up in CDWav, FLAC, torrent.
I remember some years back, when I was recording more folk music, I had a great plugin by Waves that I used in Sound Forge called L2-Ultramaximzer that I could use to bump up my levels on quiet shows w/ loud clapping/crowd nosie - and the results were quite nice.
What does everyone else do for a recording of theirs where the music has very low levels, usually hitting -18, but there is plenty of clapping/crowd interaction that peaks out?
My Tom Waits tape from Saturday is a prime example of this - would like to do some editing here.
Thanks for any pointers.
