recording a very very loud band

I am seeing Sissy Spacek (noise...usually kills my ears). what volume should I put to? start with 9 and see from there? I have R-09 with Church Audio CA-11 with a batterybox (no preamp).  and even if it does not peak, will it distort the sound i capture because it is sooooo goddamn loud?

I'd run line in with the B box, best for no disto, IMO + t for taping noise!!

Anymore for shows I know are going to be too loud I flip the switch on the back of my R-09 from full to half and set the input from there, and bump up in normallize and/or volume. If I had figured this out last year my Deep Purple would be a better show than the craptastic event I captured!

I saw Deep Purple 3 times: 1972, 1974 (California Jam) and 1991. I saw Iron Maiden (Rock In Rio 1895).
Deep Purple was the loudest. BTW, it was more than loud. Something like a delicious torture, so to speak.

I can advise you to get a bit more comfortable and familiar with your gear.
You know what levels you usually set for at 'normal' concerts in certain venues, right?
You know what dB's these shows hit? (110-115 peak?)

You do the math for that new show...

I was more than fortunate to be there. My family was always going to the US and Europe and suporting a 15/16 year old teenager to go to those concerts.

Don´t forget your earplugs dude!
Go line-in with bbox and all will be good.
Rec level 12-15/30 should be a good one to start the show with as you have low-sens cardioids.
If you can´t get good levels even at level 30/30, change to mic-in...I did the same with my dpa4061 mics taping URIAH HEEP pretty close to the stacks(about 20m in front ofthe right stack) at an outdoor show.
