They are no longer made.  They were the predecessors to the 930's.  I would imagine you will need nothing short of a miracle to track down a pair at this point, especially with the omni caps (these are designated 801's).

I actually purchased the very last NOS pair of 803's beyerdynamic had on hand about 2 years ago.  They did not have any spare caps at that point, unfortunately.

Your best bet would be Ebay Germany, or some of the more obscure European trading websites (AudioFanzine, etc).

You are looking for a Beyer CV800 mic body and the three capsules that fit it, CK1 omni, CK3 card and CK5 hyper. None of these are in production and haven't been for several years. The caps appear on ebay very infrequently, usually in Europe.

currently one CV800 with CK1 on ebay germany http://cgi.ebay.de/Beyerdynamic-CV800-mit-CK1-Microkapsel-Kugel!!_W0QQitemZ170250471501QQcmdZViewItem?IMSfp=TL0808141010a2044

< and the resident Beyer expert posts while I step away from the computer for a bit without hitting the post button, Dirk, think your European buddy with all the spares he won't part with will bid on this one?  You'll need to c&p that url as it is not a live link>

Well how about that?  Flipp, are you going to go for this one?

I'd love to grab it up myself, but a recent large ticket purchase has made me rather indigent at the moment.  I'll have to make do with cards oinly for a while, I suppose.

As for our German comrade, it wouldn't surprise me if he did bid on this one too.  In fact it wouldn't surprise me if he chimes in on this thread, as he is a member of TS.

He only has a couple of 801s, 803s and 805s...there's always room for one more!   :P

Hadn't really planned on it but I will keep an eye on it since you aren't planning on bidding. If a check I'm expecting from some contract work arrives I might bid after all (but then I really expect DF to snag it).

You are safe from my sniping on this one.  I'm way poor right now.

Although it's certainly tempting.

I won't be bidding on the one on ebay.de though it is difficult not to with the current price at 20.50 euros.

I've wondered how to do that here as it seems every forum I post on has different code for achieving identical ends.

Old thread, but the omni (and the supercardioid) version of the MC930 will be soon available. They are the MC910 and MC950

sadly, the new mc910 (omni) is designed for diffuse field work (8dB high end rise), which will make it unsuitable for the near field chamber and small acoustic group work i do.  it might be just the ticket for you more distant tapers, however.  i am sure it will be a fine mic nonetheless.

Not really. There are two different ways to tame the highs used in practical applications. One is to point the mic away from the source, often straight up. The high frequency response 90 degrees towards the capsule is generally quite flat. The other solution is to do a gentle EQ correction after the fact. Cutting high frequencys is easy to do and generally sounds good. But as always, YMMV.

hmm - i am confused.  i had just looked at a freq response curve, and swore it had an 8dB lift before i posted.  but now, looking at it again, it appears you are correct - only about 4dB.  thanks for making this correction.
