I know the cheap Sony mics are not very good (bass deficient, for one thing). I started with a Sony 907 and was amazed at the improvement when I switched to SP 853 mics....
I would suggest going with Church Audio cards or omni's (or both) to get the best bang for the buck without spending a lot.

Your R09-HR has the capability of capturing so much better sound quality than that, so it would be a waste of money to run it with a cheap T-mic in front.
As a rule of thumb, you will get the best sound for your bucks if you budget at least 50% of your cash for the mic+pre stage, and the rest of the money on the recorder.
So if you spent $300 on the R09HR, dropping $289 on the Church combo is money well spent. With the added advantage of cabled mics that you can stand- or body mount!
