Nero Overburn Test Instructions

http://www.geocities.com/kilian0072002/Overburn.htm

Using TDK 52x 80min 700mb discs, I set at 89min and I got no errors!
tried 95 minutes with no errors on the test. However, when I burned the disc with 94:28 seconds, it completed but no audio after 82 minutes? Tried with 84:01 and no audio after 82:22. I think that the max for my burner. Anyone experience different results?

I stopped burning disc.  iriver for flac playback is the way to go!  the space for all the audio disc was way too much.

my computer is connected to my stereo. I was just doing some tests. Ever since jkbyram told me that he used his in his car, I have been thinking about doing the same. The only problem is that I have to run it through my tape player, which is my only option now since my damn cd player shit itself a couple of months ago.

I believe your end results will depend on media used, not the burner.

I have been listening w/ a Zune 30GB>Cassette Adapter, and it suits my needs just fine for the car. For stereo playback at home, like you Louie, I listen w/ my PC>Foobar2k>Audiophile 2496, altho I cant get my Audiophile 2496 to play anything higher than 24/48 ???

But I think that method will suit your needs just fine for the car, unless you have a really nice system.

RE 2496: make sure on the sample rate setting page that you don't have the "rate locked" setting ticked.  that might be your prob.

I think the higher settings are for special 90 minute (or longer) blanks.

With 80 minute discs I believe the most you can overburn to is about 82 minutes or a few seconds more. I've always done it with settings not exceeding 82 minutes and never had a problem.

This is correct. You should be very careful trying to overburn more than ~82 minutes or so on an 80 minute CDR. You can severely damage your burner by burning more than the allowable space. Weird it didn't give you any errors.

I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can

agreed! I hav e ALWAYS USED Nero 6.6.0.3 Ultra Edition and have also ALWAYS USED Nero Express since its always been the EASIEST BY FAR to use, and I ONLY burn Data DVD's, Audio CDR's, and DVD Video Files, so Nero Express in 6.6.0.3 has always suited me PERFECTLY!!!

And about overburning, well, I do it too, but I NEVER exceed 81:30 or 82:00 mins personally :) I ALWAYS try to make my own recordings fall under the 80:0-0 min mark personally, tho it always doesnt happen. Yesterday in fact I had a 2nd set go to 81mins:37secs and I tested it out first to see if it could EASILY be overburned, and it was a NO GO!!! After like 10 mins of TRYING to burn it, it was still at around 20%, even tho it WAS still burning, but VERY SLOWLY. I went back and moved the last track of the 2nd set onto the 3rd disc w/ the encores, so that NOONE EVER HAD A PROBLEM when trying to overburn that 2nd set/disc :) And it worked out PERFECTLY since the last song of the 2nd set wasnt segued into or anything like that! It was a FRESH START of the song if you know what I mean w/ the last track of the 2nd set, so there was no effect when switching the last track of the 2nd set from the end of Disc 2, to the beginning of Disc 3 :)

I do overburn when its an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY, but I avoid it AT ALL COSTS since I have heard HORROR STORIES online using Nero 6 Ultra Edition just like me and overburning with it when trying to exceed a certain number of mins(unsure what the number of minutes they were having burner failure with tho ??? ), and using a certain brand of media. Personally, and for the last 8 FRICKIN YEARS, I have ONLY USED Verbatim blank media(BOTH DVD-R and CD-R) from Sam's Club EXCLUSIVELY!!! Its ALL the BEST MEDIA MONEY CAN BUY, and the DVD-R's are FIRST CLASS MEDIA!!! I look up EVERY BATCH I BUY(or at least the first 5 or so DVD-R's on the top of the spindle just to see about consistency :) ) w/ a program called 'DVD Identifier' and EVERYONE SERIOUS ABOUT THEIR ARCHIVAL COLLECTION SHOULD BE DOING AS WELL ;) :) ALL of the Verbatim DVD-R's I buy from Sam's Club the last however many years(last 4 years or so) or as long as Ive been using 'DVD Identifier' anyway, are the 'MCC03RG20', which are VERY RELIABLE FIRST CLASS MEDIA ;D Doesnt get ANY BETTER OR MORE RELIABLE THAN 1ST CLASS MEDIA ANYWAY :) I would HIGHLY SUGGEST buying the Verbatim DVD-R's and CD-R's from Sam's Club!!! I would IMAGINE ANYWAY, that each store would have the EXACT SAME blank media, altho I have NO CLUE as Ive ONLY EVER BEEN INSIDE OF ONE Sam's CLUB, which is here in my hometown of Washington, PA!!! Does ANYONE ELSE use that blank media STRICTLY like I do ??? Its a BEAUTIFUL SIGHT THO, looking into my Phish DVD-R HUGEASS Case Logic Binder Book and seeing NOTHING BUT VERBATIM DVD-R Discs and seeing that reliability and consistency ;D It really is a BEAUTIFUL SIGHT!!! EVERY CD-R ive burned the last 9-10 years is a Verbatim CD-R too ;D I just DONT KNOW how some of you tapers can use all this different kinds and brands of media, and your WHOLE COLLECTION should be NOTHING BUT FIRST CLASS MEDIA if you are SERIOUS about recording and archiving like I am anyway ;) ;D You can own different kinds of blank m,edia as long as its all FIRST CLASS MEDIA at least ;D But I guess thats the OCD in me or something :P Because if and when I DO have to switch to a different kind of brand name in the blank media market that I can get as EASILY as those Verbatim DVD-R's/CD-R's, I dont know WHAT THE FUCK I'm GOING TO DO ??? I'll probably FREAK DA FUCK OUT about it IF and WHEN it happens ??? :'( :( :'( But yeah, Ive heard MANY HORROR STORIES and read them ONLINE. Just do a Google search about folks ruining their WHOLE FRICKIN BURNERS just by doing an overburn that was tooo frickin long, and since EVERY DISC and BURNER is DIFFERENT, I just avoid overburning altogether except the SMALL 1% of the time, if that, that I have to do an overburn disc, so folks, AVOID OVERBURNING AT ALL COSTS, unless you want to take the chance of ruining your WHOLE BURNER :P ;) And if you MUST do or MAKE an overburn disc w/ one of your recordings, PLEASE DONT EXCEED the 81 min mark, and DEFINITELY dont exceed the 82min mark ;) Unless you not only want to risk YOUR BURNER, but also EVERYONE ELSE'S that has D/L'd your recordings where you KNOW an unusually long overburn is required :P

And I would HIGHLY SUGGEST that ALL OF YOU TAPERS THAT ARE EVEN REMOTELY SERIOUS ABOUT YOUR ARCHIVING AND RECORDINGS TO D/L AND INSTALL THIS ONE SINGLE SOFTWARE PROGRAM ;)

Here is that software program called "DVD Identifier"! It can obviously be D/L'd for FREE as it is FREEWARE :)

"DVD Identifier" version 5.0.1:
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/

And once you D/L and install and run "DVD Identifier" on a few of your BLANK DVD's just to see where YOUR blank media stands up against all of the rest, and if the blank media youre buying is even WORTH ARCHIVING TO, or just useful enough to use as frisbies, well, once you run it thru "DVD Identifier" and it spits out the manufacturer ID NUMBERS and LABELS and all that shit, look it up in the 1st Class/2nd Class/3rd Class Media Lists in that website link that is down below, and see where your BLANK MEDIA STANDS UP AGAINST MINE for example ;) Is your blank media 1st CLass as well, or are you buying JUNK made from your average foreign country w/ LOW QUALITY CONTROL STANDARDS vs. the foreign countries that have VERY HIGH QUALITY STANARDS, and thus, are making FIRST CLASS MEDIA, and you DIDNT EVEN KNOW IT? :P ;D :P ;D 8) Here is the link to the website that has the media class ratings/listings ;) Enjoy yet another geeky tendency to analyze now when you get a FRESH BATCH of BLANK DVD-R's ;) ;D :P 8) :smoking: :spin: Id LOVE to know EVERYONES RESULTS :) Maybe I'll start another thread altogether to see if the MAJORITY of BLANK MEDIA us tapers ARE using for ARCHIVING is even FIRST CLASS MEDIA, and even WORTH ARCHIVING TO ;) ;D

Media Classes/Ratings for BLANK MEDIA:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

Like I said, I ONLY USE Verbatim DVD-R BLANK MEDIA(And Verbatim CD-R's, but Im just concentrating on BLANK DVD-+R for now since DVD Identifier can identify those) :)

Verbatim DVD-R from Sam's Club here in Washington, PA 15301= MCC03RG20 (Which are 1st Class Media, and is thus the BEST MONEY CAN BUY, and PERFECT FOR ARCHIVING VALUABLE DATA AND MATERIAL, which to me translates into LIVE AUDIO RECORDINGS MADE BY MYSELF OF HIGH RESOLUTION AND HIGH QUALITY)

Ande Murphmeister, Im DEFINITELY going to need you to make a "Bean's Notes"(Murph's version of a Cliff's Notes, except for my unusual style of writing ;D ) of this message ;D 8)
