JB3 keeps freezing up...
« on: September 21, 2008, 02:31:10 PM »
So a couple week ago this well used unit started freezing up as soon as you went into the record audio screen.  I did a disk cleanup and it worked again for a couple of sessions.  Then of course last night, at an event I really needed to tape, it locks up again 53 seconds in, and now freezes in the same manner as before.

Does anyone have any suggestions to make this unit more reliable, or possibly a suggestion another bit bucket type device for my rig.  I have kind of had it with the glitchyness of the JB3 (this is my second).

You might want to check your optical cable - a bad cable can cause the deck to freeze...Also - make sure your input jack hasnt been torqued somehow...the can get loose from the circuit board and cause similar problems...

you say you did a disc clean up.  did you do a complete format?  If not how long has it been?  I use to do them before every show to make sure the drive stays defragmented etc etc.  only issues I ever had was due to this.

as for other bit buckets if you are staying 16/44 go with a iriver.

If you decide to stick with the JB3, a worthwhile mod is to replace the HD with a CF card.

Just get a 2,5">CF adapter, there have been a few threads here. Better reliability and battery life.

this is most likely it andy.  our jb3's have be reformatted constantly.  its on the same screen as the disc clean up option.  call me if i can help, or if you need to use my jb3 for anything...Cd

check your settings.  is the IR remote thing turned on?

if so, turn it off and restart.  solved it for me.
