Topic: My New Stealth Rig

I have been taping with the CA mics / pre amp / r-09

I was thinking of upgrading to this:

DPA 4061 (kit package) > MMA6000 > R-09HR

With DMM0008 clips to hat or maybe use croakie mounts.

I can get all this from B & H for under $2k.

What are your opinions on the the above rig?

Do you think it is enough of an upgrade with what I have?

the DPA rig makes superior recordings, and the mics are so small they are perfect for stealthing, I will be selling just such a rig for a friend in a few days when my computer is back from the shop and I can add pics, the preamp is in new condition and has been used only 10 times, the mics are in near new condition, and I have the gold plaed mini to mini cable to use out of the preamp as well, pm me if you are interested

I don't understand why everyone gets so excited over the DPA's.  I owned them ans just didn't like them one bit. Perhaps I hate the omni sound.

If you have a 9100 preamp keep that and "upgrade" to the DPA mics hey man the DPA mics are great but for $700 a pair they better be. The preamp you have will power your DPA mics nicely. If you are determined to get new mics you can also sign up for a loaner pair of my CAFS omni mics to try out. Are they as good as DPA not quite but for Under $200 there is nothing out there that is any better. And they are half the size of the Dpa mics.  Here is a picture of my CAFS mics with my CA-11 so you can get an idea of the size difference. I can make you a microdot to 3.5 mm stereo cable so you can run your DPA mics with my preamp. There would be no real performance gain from going to the 6000 preamp other then the fact you have 20db more gain that might be important to you but if its not then I would keep the 9100 preamp.

DPA's are nice but if you want a really kick-ass pair of miniature omnis, try the Countryman mics.  They're similar to the Nevaton MCE400s but have a lot better quality control and are a lot more reliable.  This is all 2nd hand information from illconditioned but I have heard some of his Countryman samples and they sound pretty awesome.  I currently use one of his Sennheiser KE4-211-2 hats that's on semi-permanent loan run into an Edirol R-09 and the KE4's run off plug-in power.  It does sound a bit better with a battery box but it's still a good combination.

Yeah, I would rather get the DPA 4020 carioid series over the 4060 omnis except that they are a tad too expensive for me at some $3200 a pair new.

If there are a load of DPAs gathering dust in folks' gear cupboards, I think I could be interested in upgrading my ex-Broadway 4060s to something a bit less abused...

Then again, I keep hearing good things about the Countryman B6 mics too but I thought that there were still some issues to be resolved with the powering? Then again, on re-reading the thread at: http://taperssection.com/index.php/topic,107527.0/all.html perhaps it seems they just need a 48v supply?
