recording from the stage??

just curious...... will a recording come out good if I set my mic's up on stage in the front center???   if so, what mic pattern works best???

does band have vocals? what kind of mics?

If it sounds good there and is a complete mix, then there's a chance that a well-placed pair of mics will pick up what you want. If you can mix in a SBD feed, that sometimes helps stage lip recordings.

Beware of recording onstage if vocals,keys etc are coming out of FOH only. Even a well placed pair of mics onstage will only pick up these from the monitors...which often sound like a cardboard box with a woofer in it.
