Some of you probably know about the Comparative Surround Recording we did in 2007.

It might be nice if you described the Soundfield correctly - it has four "sub-cardioid" (ie: wide cardioid) capsules and *not* cardioid capsules.

That is true for the original SoundField: is it true for the ST350 whose capsules are made by MBHO?

The new SoundField SPS200 uses MBHO KA 200 N capsules which are cardioids. The Core Sound TetraMic uses cardioid mics. Cardioid mics should be better for a tetrahedron assembly since they'll produce better S/N ratio in the XYZ channels. I'm pretty sure that subcardioid capsules were used in the original SoundField because of the difficulty of getting a cardioid pattern with such a small chamber behind the diaphragm.

Le grace de Dieux.  Manna from heaven!  Great!  I am toying with the DMS format ands have been interested in the SP200 (?) from SF.  The whole field of surround and the flexibility in decoding is very interesting to me.  More for the option of different stereo decoding options that 5.1.  And I am very interested in seeing how the SF does against the Schoeps.  Hurry, hurry, hurry.  Vite, vite, vite.  J'attend. 

You do ot post often, but the posts are great.  Thanks!

I am very interested in seeing how the SF does against the Schoeps

The DMS files will probably be included, but not processed. The DMS setup that was used is not isotropic, contrary to the SF or the QM12i. It was not either at the same distance than the other mics. The comparison is much less valid. The DMS was there because its owner wanted to try it. If it had been a standard DMS setup, it would be a valid comparison.

Daniel, I noticed that in the page on your  link.  Question is, why was it not tested as a standard (Mk4 [2] and Mk8)?  I would have thought that would make more sense.  Ah, well.  I will very much be interested in receiving the files and fiddling with them anyway.  I will not be able to fiddle with the SF files as I do not have the hardware.  Nor the cash to get it.  I am eagerly awaiting the results of your tests and being able to listen to the results.  I have a 5.1 playback, poor one, yes, for decoded files and if the differences are not too nuanced I will be able to perceive them.  I am thrilled you told us what you were up to.  Chapeau!

The owner of the DMS setup is a film/tv sound guy (the Cantar recorder is a giveaway...): his surround setup is primarily for that use. As for fiddling with B-Format, I'm sure you can setup something on your computer.
