Topic: looking to buy my first stand

I'm planning on running Church Audio mics with it. Is there a generally agreed on good entry-level stand?

How high do you want to go and what kind of footprint can you tolerate?

A Bogen knockoff (like an Amvona) from ebay is prob your cheapest solution.

I use an AEA 15 footer. Built like a tank and never let me down but the footprint is pretty large.

I don't have any mic stands to suggest, but if you're using the CA-11's this is the best T-bar to use:

I suggest the 12" one with a shockmount.  If you've got the CA-14's I'm not sure what to use.  I've got the loaner pair right now and I just taped 'em to a 6" ruler that I screwed to the top of my mic stand.

I've got 2 bogens:

12ft generic
7ft fob

My 12ft gets reserved for major clamp parties or when I know I'll be at a bar that I can spread out the footprint and get away with extra height. It's primary use though is outdoor festivals where I can fly open.

My 7ft is the go-to stand, and it has a tiny footprint. I also use it for onstage taping as the smallest it will go is 18 inches off the floor, so I can run it without impeding others.

If you only have cash for one, I recommend the smaller 7ft as a starter. Most occasions when you can run the much taller stand, chances are someone else will bring one and you can just clamp on. In that light, getting a superclamp and an extension arm would be my second choice over the 12ft as well (unless you do plan on running a lot of stuff where you can fly high and there probably won't be other people).

It is true the CA14 series mics cannot fit into the shockmounts windscreen but they can be removed (wind screens) and the mics pushed through. Jeff (lap20) suggested me to try velcro to securely hold the mics to the boom. I'll give that a try. I should note I ordered by CA14 cards without clips. I have some photos posted of the boom & CA14s under the retail space:

On a side note, when the stand is fully extended, it can get slightly wobbly. I would suggest someway to keep it from falling down whether thats a sandbag, tent steaks, holding on to it, etc.

This post helped me out when I first started looking for a stand. I have 3. a mini for on stage taping, and then I think I have the 3336 and 3322 Manfrotto models. One I use if I know the venue ahead of time and want to run 6' to 9' and the other I bring if I know I'm going to want to run higher. The Bogen / Manfrotto stands are pricey but I really like them. I'm sure there are cheaper stands that are basically the same. I've heard a lot of people search "light stand" on ebay to pull up stand results.

You might want to consider mentioning that to Chris; he's warned most of his other CA-14 customers not to attempt removal of the windscreens since they are part of the mic inclosure and not just an accessory.

Maybe your doing something he hasn't thought of and thus they could be removable, alternatively, maybe your doing something thats risky can could damage the mics. Just a heads up, ymmv.

I meant it to read that the shockmount wind screens can be removed NOT the wind screens from the CA14s. I barley tried to remove CA14 screens and once I couldn't, I realized Chris didn't want them taken off.

I like that extension arm but I'm going to try the $28 one first.
