Topic: Help please with mixing 4 track down to 2

Got an Edirol R44, which will give me 2 L and 2 R (using 4 mics) channels

Any software suggestions for taking these to burn to CD?

Does Audacity work for this?

Is samplitude better/easier?  I'd drop the 49 bucks for the d/l

How about Koblo?  Any experience there?

I've never actually used audacity but, i think it's a multi-track program. so, simply paste each file as a separate track and align. if you're mixing 4 mono sources remember to pan them. since you're using 1 recorder you won't have to deal with audio drift (caused by using separate clocks in separate recorders) which should make it pretty easy.

Reaper is good, too, but not free after the first month.  You may be able to designate two stereo channels on the R44, I do not know, and then you will be mixing two stereo channels.  This means they will already be panned to stereo.  Either way, Audacity or Reaper would work.  I use SAM.  There is an LE version for ~USD50 which is a good buy.  If you want to stay as economical as possible use Audacity.  It has a ton of plugins and lots of folks use it so there is a lot of help out there, too.

Audacity will work fine - you might want to use the time shift tool to time align your tracks...

And keep your eye on the level meters for red-light overs when you combine tracks...(might not be a problem in 24 bit)

I use Sony Vegas Pro with great results.  Real time volume, pan, eq, etc.  You can also render the final product to and bit/sample rate.  You can save the "project" file and revisit anytime.
