ffp txt ~> FFP file?
« on: November 28, 2008, 05:54:43 PM »
Anyway to make that happen?

Dime requires an actual md5 or ffp file (not text file).

So if I have a show in flac with an ffp text file can I create an ffp file with the
same fingerprint it already has?

Write DIME.  I gave up on them and torrent my stuff through thetradersden.org.  TTD is pleasant rather than tyrannical.  I have no idea how you can make a fingerprint file form FLAC's other than a txt file.  I suppose you could do it as an rtf or a doc.  But I always use a txt file with TTD.

Good luck with DoD.

Rename the extension of the file from .txt to .ffp and it will switch automatically.

You might have to go into your file options to select something that enables your file extensions to be visible/changeable - if they are not already.

Edit: Yeah, I've been seeding my masters on TTD since 2004. It's my preferred BT site, fwiw.

Yeah dime sucks teh balls.

The case here is that I have a show with a ffp text file.
Dime requires an actual ffp file which you can create with Traders Little helper when encoding to flac.
However this show was already encoded to flac and just has an ffp text file.

Here's some pics.
I want to get the txt (pic one) to an ffp file(pic two)

In Windows, do it in the command prompt (don't be scared) which can be found in the accessories folder in the start menu.   Navigate your way to the folder that the file you wish to change in is.  Then use the "ren" command to change the .txt file to .ffp

yeah, you can also always just select Checksum > Create Checksum File in TLH, load the .flacs and create any one of the 5 checksum files available including .ffp.

It already has fingerprints for the flacs and I wanted to keep the originals.
The file was in text form(notebook) and I wanted to switch it to an actual green ffp file with the same fingerprints it already has.

The dos command worked like a charm.

glad it worked for you.  I create md5sums via the command prompt, and rename the .txt to .ffp.  If I'm uploading to the upstatetapers.org torrent tracker, I'll also make a .nfo file, by copying the txt file to the same named .nfo file.  I can do it in my sleep these days.

The dos command worked like a charm.

Just to clear up any confusion - there is nothing special about the physical format of a .ffp and a .txt file. An ffp file is in fact a simple text file that contains the fingerprint strings as lines of text.  You don't have to use the DOS command either - all you have to do is right click on the file in Windows Explorer and select rename and remove the .txt extension.   You were not seeing that .txt extension because your explorer options were set to hide extensions but it was there.

You are not changing anything about the file - there was never any difference between what you are calling the "text form" and the "actual green ffp file" other than the extension and the default file icon Windows associates with the file based on its extension.

But there is a difference when uploading to DAD :P

I had the "Hide extensions of known files" checked in my folder options.

Also, set Notepad to be the default program for .ffp and you can open the just like a .txt too.
