Topic: Mic for Korg MR-1

Hi, I'm a total Newbie so please forgive me if I'm asking something that has already been answered.  I just bought a Korg MR-1, and need some advice on a decent mike that doesn't cost a fortune.  I'm using it to record myself in concert and on stage - Opera with orchestra.  I have a small sony stereo mike (ECM-MS908c) that I can also use beside the one that comes with the korg.  It's a bit of a stealth operation as I put the recorder at the edge of the stage or in the audience during rehearsals.  Any suggestions?

I don't know about the Korg's included mic (mine had badly mismatched channels so I've never used it) but that Sony mic is not good enough to do the recorder justice.

I recommend getting Church Audio ST-9100 Preamp and one of the Church mics. Check the retail space on this board. According to edyre the Korg's gain adds a lot of noise when you record quiet sources & have to turn its gain up above 6-7 dB and according to guysonic, if you need to turn the levels down below -10 dB to keep the meters from going over, your recording will clip anyway (brickwall distortion). The ST-9100 (which has attenuation as well as gain) will prevent both potential problems. Just set the Korg's record levels around -6 or so (this is supposed to be the unity gain) and adjust levels with the ST-9100. I've made great recordings with my MR-1 this way. 

You will need an adapter cable to go from the ST-9100 to the MR-1 (1/8 Stereo plug to dual mono 1/8 plugs).
