Topic: samplitude multitrack ??

Using the vip project.  I don't see an option to record more than 8 tracks at a time. Im trying to record 12 tracks at a time.  i have feeds using the M-audio control panale but I cant figure out how to record more than 8..

Anyone?

If you are using the SE version, the input/output is limited to 8 tracks.

I also have sequoia 7 loaded and am recording 8 tracks as i type

I should mention that everything is recorded as stereo pairs in Samplitude. So with mine it shows analog inputs 1+2 of a multiface can be recorded to track 1.

Im running the firewire 1814.

It should be simple.

1 - press Y ( for system audio properties)
Make sure you have the correct driver. Generally you should use ASIO if possible for best performance.
In the menu choice Audio Devices, be sure to check all relevant input channels.

2 - in the menu, Track / Insert new tracks / Add one track
do this as many times as you like to in order to have enough channels.
you migth need to scroll and/or decrease height of channels

3 - for each channel, select input source and if mono or stereo
I preferr the track options menus, try Alt-I (but there are are other ways, ie right-clicking the little loudspeaker symbol in each track).
The little >> button goes to next track.
Note that all sound cards handles stereo tracks as odd/even, you cannot do a stereo pair from even/odd.

Be warned, there is a bit of learning curve as Samplitude is one of the more competent partners you can find in this business.

A small note, from version 9 at least there are mono channels. I believe they actually came in version 8 but I cannot remember.
Try right clicking the little loudspeaker symbol in each channel, there should be a mono choice there.

Still making some guesses here, but just trying to help.  :-)

Are you using the ADAT input?
It looks to me like you should be able to access the ADAT input while using the 8 analog inputs. Perhaps something else needs to be selected in the Firewire 1814 Control Panel. There is something there that toggles between SPDIF and ADAT.

Without that option enabled in the control panel it may not show up in Samplitude.

If I am way off here tell us what inputs you are using.

Gunnar thanks for the heads up on the mono tracking capability. I guess I need to save up some $$$ for version 10. Quite a bit had changed since version 8 and the flac file handling of 10 is going to be nice too.

Thanks for the help guys.  Im gonna try to rig up 8 tracks tomorrow evening at the house and do some more testing.

I might add that stereo tracking was never a problem for me. On location I simply track whatever there is to stereo tracks. Back home mixing it is very easy to copy the track and mute L in one of them and R in the other -- a few mouse clicks. (For those that has not tried, copying a track does not copy the sound file, only adds one more place where it is played).

And even with stereo tracking if you want mono files afterwards you can always use the "save in format" dialogue.

Doing some testing here today I get all my analog inputs but I don't get an option for me to select a digital input to record.  Is it best to use vip project templates or just add tracks one at a time.

Do you see checkboxes there for each stereo pair in that dialogue?
If not try toggling between MME, WDM, and ASIO.

I don't use project templates, but I can see where that would save quite a few mouse-clicks when setting up the environment for a new project's wav files.
