Digi-in OK with JB3 but not H120 - dud toslink cable?
« on: January 13, 2009, 05:33:27 PM »
I screwed up one gig recently when my H120 refused to record on digi-in.
After hitting the record button, it rolled for 3 sec before stopping and saving the file.
No matter how many times i tried, it just resulted in a 3 sec wav.

After troubleshooting at home, I found the offending part to be my toslink cable (all other recording inputs worked, and replacing the cable was successful).

But the "broken" cable runs OK with my JB3.

So could it be that the JB3 is less sensitive to dropped samples on the incoming signal, whereas the H120 immediately notices that the stream is flawed and stops recording?

Anyone else experienced this?

ive had that happen with an h120.  turned out that even tho i THOUGHT i had deleted a bunch of files, the iriver still saw them as being there, and refused to let me go further.

turns out that once you delete the files, you have to keep it hooked up to your computer and clear the recycling bin before the iriver will see the files as being deleted.

pissed me off too....moe. was on fire that night, and i only got the 1st set.

This can also be done from the irivers rockbox info screen by pushing the navi key which makes the os rescan the disc.

This is not the issue here, I was running a freshly formatted CF card.
The junk file/recycle bin problem has been discussed earlier, can we get back on topic - if anyone has anything to say about the digi-in tolerance issue I had?!

I do believe this has happened to me because the same digital cable works on one of my JB3s but when I plug it into the iriver, i THINK it says pre-recording and no matter how many times i hit record, nothing changes.

Sounds like we need new digital cables!
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.
