installing VST plug-ins
« on: April 04, 2009, 12:46:59 PM »
I'm messing around with Wave Editor for mac.  It supports VST plugins.  How would I install the plugins so they'd show in my effects pane?  Any help would be appreciated.

not sure about on a mac but with wavelab sometimes you have to "scan for new plugins".  maybe there is a option for that.

It usually depends on the plugins you are installing.

Some are simply drag and drop in the folder that your editor/sequencer 'reads' for VST plugins (usually, but not always, within the program's application folder there is a folder name VST plug ins).

Others have an installer where you dictate where you want the plugin to be installed.

Like Gordon said, some editor/sequencers require you to refresh or scan for newly installed plugins.

i can't seem to find the scan for new plug-ins command for wavelab. i recently installed soundforge and would like to be able to use the sony graphic EQ while i'm working in wavelab. wavelab didn't automagically import the sony plug-ins. any help would be appreciated. tia.

For me Dennis, I tell Wavelab to use external folder in preferences and when that option is checked, the default folder location is in the dialog box.

When I restart wavelab, viola!

Are these .dll files are do the have an installer or .exe file.

Most of the lower end plugins will just use dll files which you copy to the Program files / Steinberg / vst plugins folder.  If they have an installer be sure to point them to that folder and reopen wavelab and install your license or key you should be good to go.
