Personally I always run without any filters. I like to be able to capture as much as possible on location. Then, afterwards, with good listening, calmly, I can postprocess at home.
Same goes for setting of volumes. On location I always run very conservative levels, leaving plenty of room upwards. Flickering yellows, no reds. At home, calm again, I can add gain, compress, limit, whatever suits.
The good thing about capturing raw is that all changes afterwards are undoable. I lose a little in added noise, but with 24 bit recording on the SD 7xx there is plenty of space down to the noise floor.
But YMMV ass they say.
