Marantz PMD661 vs. Microtrack II opinions?
« on: May 12, 2009, 07:46:59 PM »
I am really just looking for the digi-in, is it worth paying the extra money for a nicer and possibly more stable unit with the marantz?

yes, it is worth the few hundred extra for the PMD-661 over the Microtrack II.
from your signature, it looks like you'v ealready got a set of Schoeps, a PSP-3, and a MiniMe.
All that gear is worthless if your recording device freezes or crashes or in some other way loses the recording, because you go home with nothing.

I am likely biased, having had some issues with the original Microtrack, but even so, the Marantz has been a stable, reliable deck - and you don't have to worry about whether or not you'll go home with a recording.

although there have been positive interaction with the mt, seems like the marantz is what I'm looking for. I'm not into playing odds and while I will really only use it for plugging into the minime or patching, its nice to know that it has the rest of the goods to use in the future.  thx!

anyone else?

yeah, you are not the only person who I've heard of having no problems with the MTII.  like I said in my first post, I am biased against M-Audio based on my experiences with the original MT.  Even if the MTII is stable and not really a gamble, I prefer the PMD-661 for the variety of options is provides (battery options, XLR inputs, etc, etc).

x2 I don't use mine so much anymore, b/c I bought an R-44. It works perfectly as a bit bucket. However, you might want to go low profile one day and bypass using your pres. If that is the case, the 661 would work perfectly.

totally, for the wide amount of options and the ability scale down in the future, I went with the 661. scored it for 539.10 delivered from zzones.
