OK!
So finally jumped to the R-09HR  ....  previously used/using SONY M1 DAT for 9 years!

So my new lineage would be like this
SP-CMC-8>ST-9100>R-09HR

Please:
Tips, tricks, settings,  postition of the swithes on the back?
Regarding my Mics and a the Church ST-9100

That's what I do.

R-09HR

Limiter/Low Cut switch: OFF

Plug In power OFF ( when you run a bb or pre, of course. If you're going to plug your mics straight to the mic input, turn that thing ON)

Mic Sens:
LOW ( of course, when you plug to the Mic Input. With Line In, it doesn't matter)

Using the Menu, you can turn the Rec red light off ( it will flash for like 2 seconds if you touch the Rec Levels controls) and and red Peak light, which is quite desirable in low profile recordings.

9100

Great piece of gear. I only use mine with quiet/acoustic music. In this case, I set my R-09HR at the so called unity gain ( Rec Level around 40) and do all the heavy lifting with the 9100. I don't use the the 9100 high pass filter  (inside the battery compartment), but that's me.


I'm sure there's more to it, but I just don't remember right now. Hope that helps and have fun

If you're doing a lot of your work in the dark, like I usually am, I find it helpful to put black electrical tape over all of the holes and switches you will NOT use.   I.E., I cover up the mic input and all the switches on the back (all set to OFF) except for HOLD with black electrical tape.  That way, it's never difficult to find where you need to plug in.  Obviously I keep the level setting buttons uncovered also.

If you need the inputs, you can always take the tape off.  Just a simple but helpful tip.

That's good advice for anyone using an R-09 or R-09HR.  I didn't think that I would need to do that since I only tape in the open, but accidentally bumping the Low Cut Filter "on" taught me that I was wrong.  I didn't put tape on everything that I don't use, but I put a piece on the back to cover up all of those switches.

I've put black tape on the REC button and the switches at the back too... it's infuriating when accidentally knocking them spoils your recording. My old R-1 might have been twice the size and a real brick, but I don't recall ever having as many problems/mishaps as I've had with my R-09

I have that exact rig.  Yeah, I duct tape (actually gaffers tape) most of the 09's back, including the battery area.  Mine is very loose and the switches like to move. 

I use Line in, and you will want to use the 9100 with it all the time.  Those mikes need power.
