It depends on what you want most out of the recorder. The DR-07 is smaller and the DR-1 is more full featured. They both are nice recorders, and they both are small enough to stealth. If it were me (and I am a very happy Tascam owner), I'd download the manuals off the Tascam website, and see what all the real differences are, and I'd look at the features side by side. I'd look at the threads here for each recorder, and I'd look for how the backlighting works, is ther seamless files splits and look at my personal hot buttons until the one better suited to my tastes emerged.

If you leave it up to someone else, you will end up with their top choice. It may or may not ultimately be your top choice.

I have the DR-07 and love it! I have only had it for a couple months and all of my recordings thus far have been outdoors. I will be using it indoors this weekend for the first time... never used it for stealth (YET). It is super simple to use and I am trying out different settings each time I use it.

I read somewhere that they have the same pres and adc.  The 07 is cheaper, smaller, and less fluffy (functions an audience taper doesn't neccesarily need).

If it is for open and stealth, I'd want xlr inputs, so I think what a taper needs really varies. But if size and price are more important, than maybe the 07 makes more sense. For me that would be more of a second deck.

Very valid point...you need a deck that meets ur needs.

What kind of mics and/or pre you plan on running?  Ratio to open/stealth?
