Tascam CD-RW901SL or Fostex CR500
« on: July 05, 2009, 10:36:39 AM »
I'm finally looking to buy a standalone CDR, the Tascam CD-RW901SL or Fostex CR500 seem to be the best choices. It doesn't need to be portable, this will be for mastering only.

Tascam Pro's is the coax digital in and outs and ease of use.
Tascam Con's is not having higher than 16/44.1 resolution

Fostex pro's is the ability for BWF and higher resolution recording potential up to 24/96.
Fostex Con's more difficult not so ease of use and not having coax digital in and outs.

Qouestion can you use AES/EBU input with Coax if you use an adapter?

The Fostex is about $500 and the Tascam is about $900

I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts, opinions, or experience with these units???

Thanks,

Michael foy

Actually i discovered something interesting about the FOSTEX CR500...The XLR connectors for Digital IO on this unit, normally associated with AES/EBU can also be set internally to handle spdif as well.
