So I have a couple of 1 gig files that I want to share but without uploading to a bit torrent site or Archive.

Sites like Sendspace are limited to 300MB and I tried signing up for a Pro account at MediaFire but every time I upload it still says I can't upload a file larger than 300MB.

Any other suggestions on the best method to share a 1G file?  I'm kinda at a loss.

by "archive" do you mean you dont want to upload it to an archive site or you dont want to archive the file and then upload the parts? if its the former, theres always winrar. if its the latter, i think there is a site that allows up to 1 gig file size, ill see if i can find it

By archive I ment archive.org.  I don't want the files to be able to be downloaded by just anyone at anytime.

Essentially I am looking to upload the files to a site where I can provide a few people the link to download the files within the next couple days.  After that the files can be deleted.

If you plan to do this alot I would suggest to get your own hosted account and domain.  It's really not that expensive.  Alot of places have unlimited disk space and unlimited bandwidth for $8+ a month.  It will also cost you a few bucks to register the domain at first.

I used to use hostgator....
http://www.hostgator.com/

Now I work across the street from go daddy and get a discount because we partner with them.  Some people don't like them but I've never had a problem and their hosting speeds seem much faster than others I've used.  If you want to try them search online for a discount code and it will bring the cost down.

Edit:
My hosted site for downloads is www.aztapers.org.  It has FTP but I also give people links to the show as one large zip over http.  I never update the front page but just send out the link to the files.

I don't really plan to do it that much.  Mega Upload seems to be working.

Why not split it into a bunch of smaller files and then have the user on the other end join them up?

Use command line tools to do it - this is how i recently transferred four 12 gig files.

Someone pointed me in the direction of http://www.getdropbox.com

Requires each of you to have the software installed, but it is free and in public beta right now.

Would like to know how anyone finds it if they are using it.

Why not just make a torrent and use your own bittorrent tracker instead of a public one? Most BT clients have the ability to track built in, all you have to do is make a torrent file with your own trackers address in the tracker url section and give the torrent file to anyone you want. You then can also delete the torrent any time you want from your own tracker which would dissolve the swarm. Most of the time all that is needed to track is opening a port on your router which anyone using BT already will usually know how to do.
Hope this helps,
J
