Remote control for Marantz PMD-670
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:27:03 PM »
I own a Marantz PMD-670 digital recorder and recently ordered a remote control for it.  The best match I could find was the RC-600 remote which is described as "for the PMD series of recorders".  I called D&M Professional's tech support and was told that the RC-600 was indeed the proper remote for the PMD-670, so I shelled out nearly $80 for the remote control, which I duly received a few days ago.

It turns out that the plug on the RC-600 is of a larger diameter than the remote jack on the PMD-670, so I can't even find out if it's pin-compatible (the plug is a small tip-ring-sleeve plug with 4 connections).  I can find no references anywhere to a remote control specifically for the PMD-670 and am not sure where to go here.  Do I need a different remote?  Or perhaps an adapter for the plug?

I'll appreciate any help from anyone with experience who can help out.

Is that the remote model# shown in the PMD670 owners manual? I have a 670 I use at home to transfer DATs, and I frankly cannot recall seeing a remote control option in my copy of the owners manual, but I might have just missed it.

It turns out that this is an RTFM issue!  I didn't see a remote model number mentioned in the manual, so I went looking online, and the D&M phone tech with whom I talked gave me the wrong information!  The remote for the PMD-670 is just a simple SPST switch on a wire with a 2.5mm tip-sleeve plug - something I can easily buy locally or make.  The detaiils _were_ in the manual.  Now I'll go iron my hands and get an RMA from B&H PhotoVideo where I bought it. :-\
