Hi,

I'm wondering if it would be possible to run MBHO capsules without the bodies?

Since the "active cables" don't have any electronics in them, I figured it may be possible to run the capsules with a battery box or possibly with the new Naiant Littlebox preamp.

I'm not very technical when it comes to this type of stuff, so I figured I'd see if any of the experts would care to chime in.

Thanks in advance!

Something like this? Not sure if anyone else than JK knows how to build these.

Wow, I didn't realize JK Labs had built a box for the MBHO caps. I thought he just made them for AKG & Geffels. Cool.

The nice thing about trying to do this for the MBHO caps is that they plug in to a mini 4-pin xlr cable. There is no need to machine/manufacture any proprietary connectors for the capsules.

that is not entirely true.  the capsules still screw into a base that has the taf4.  my understanding is that these bases are not available separately.
open: mbho 603a (ka200n/ka500hn) > SD MP-2 > PCM-M10
stealth: AT853a (o/sc/c/h) > SD MP-2 > ihp120

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize that.

But if you already owned a pair of MBHO actives, then you would have the required parts.

That's right.  There is (at least) a FET and a very high (1 Gigohm) resistor in the base.  This is like the Shoeps "collette".  The reason for this is the mic signal itself is not strong enough to travel even a few inches.  You need a FET behind there to strengthen the signal.  Specifically, the FET acts as a "voltage follower".  That is, it provides no voltage gain at all, but increases the current so it can drive down the cables to the body.
