mp3 related question...sorry mp3
« on: September 01, 2009, 11:36:44 PM »
 :-[  So, a friend taped a show using a zoom h2, with the setting of mp3.  Will this always be lossy or is there a way to make it lossless...
Using FLAC or shn wouldn't help is what I've heard.

Thanks for your help,

~B

edit:  here is the source info;
zoom h2 > media card > then: set one is a 320 bit rate mp3,  set two is 256.

There is no way to make a lossy file lossless.  You can convert them to WAV/FLAC, but the files will still be lossy and contain no more music information than the original mp3 files.  Sorry, it happens.
If you have a problem relating to the Live Music Archive (http://www.archive.org/details/etree) please send an e-mail to us admins at LMA(AT)archive(DOT)org or post in the LMA thread here and we'll get on it.

FWIW - MP3's can sound good.  This depends upon the coding parameters and the encoder.  See www.hydrogenaudio.org for the fine points on this one.  They do much development and testing of the LAME package there.

right. just because the show was recorded in mp3 doesnt mean its automatically shit quality. ive heard mp3 sourced recordings that sound great while some lossless recordings sound horrible. lossless does not automatically equal good
