MG 270's VS LSD2 Opinions please
« on: October 08, 2009, 02:22:52 AM »
Hey all,

These are two short samples from Garaj Mahal tonight.
Both were recorded on my R4, normalized and taken from 24/96 to 16/44.1 with SF7

The 270's were split 3ft and the LSD2 was Blumlein.

Both sound great to my ears, but I am curious as to what everyone else thinks.

I'll post which is which later (though it should be easy to spot)

Thanks for the input.

JAson

I think:
sound1 = LSD2
and
sound2 = MG m270's

and I prefer sound2.  It's a little brighter and has a more open, wide sound, which I would expect with split omnis instead of blumlein.  I also think that the differences are more apparent once the vocals start.

Interesting.  They both have a lot of stereo separation.  I've not run split omnis stage lip personally, and I didn't think there would be as much separation, but obviously there is.

depends how far you split them.  I've had some great on stage omni pulls with a 2 or 3' spread.

Joe, I ran 3' split ck22's on stage that night in Portland for Taubab Krewe.  There was definately some seperation going on that night.

JAson,  i will listen when I get home from work, but which source was run off the Oade Mod channels on the R-4?  If i remeber correctly your R-4 has the front channels modified and the back channels are stock.

Thanks Ted,

Forgot to mention that the MG's have the added benefit of being on the modded channels and the LSD2 was on the stock amp.

Let me first say both sound very good.

1= The LSD2

2= the MG's

I prefer 2 for its separation but again as nick state LSD2 is 500....going up against mics that cost 4x that....thats tough to beat in this situation, assuming I have my guesses right.....
Nice comp...
