Topic: Strange clicks on recording

A friend used my Nbox rig to record a classical concert.
There are some strange clicks on the recording.

Please listen and comment if you know anything.

This was my recording.  Further info:

1) MK41 > nbox+ > R09;  used for unamplified orchestra concert.

2) MK41/nbox had been used the night before without any problems.

3) R09 settings: line in, ACG off, low cut off, mic gain low, input 25 (peaking @ -12)

4) Clicks are variable throughout the 2-hr recording.  They are more pronounced during louder passages.

5) Fresh batteries in both nbox and R09.

6) Unable to reproduce the noise using same setup in my home.

7) As far as I could tell, there were no people texting or otherwise using their cell phones near us.  Mine was turned off.


Anyone have any ideas what might have caused this??

I had a similar problem when the capsule on one of my Busman BSC1s was barely making contact with the "pogo pin" on the mic body that it mates too. The result was an intermittent connection that became worse the louder the music became. The wave form looked like yours and audibly sounded like clicking also. I'm not sure why you'd have it in both channels though, so your problem is likely different.

Were you able to reproduce it at home? i understand if you don't have opera singers at home but maybe if it can be reproduced, you will have a better understanding of what caused it.

5 pin connection?

I think you have it TJ, thats the only connection that effects both channels
and would speed up and slow down with the tempo of the music. If it got loose somehow
and was partially connected, it might cause that type of problem.

My first thought is, that couldn't be the cause, as I left all the connections as they were (didn't break down after the show, did not disconnect 5 pin from Nbox).  The whole assembly remained intact, then I tried to reproduce the problem at home.  If the clicking occurred while recording in the venue, then couldn't be duplicated later, with nothing being disconnected or tampered with in the meantime, then how would a loose connection have suddenly gotten tighter (especially with the "lock-down" construction of this particular unit)?

However, on second thought, when I tried to reproduce it at home, it wasn't the same SPLs as in the venue.  There does definitely seem to be a correlation between the clicking and the input level.  So perhaps you are right.
