couple LMA questions
« on: January 31, 2010, 08:50:28 AM »
I'm trying to get used to the new system and there are a few things I have questions on;

After you upload, if you need to replace files is there any way to use FTP to make the changes? (say I have to replace several flacs..) Flash is very painful.

How do I re-derive after uploading new FLACs these days?  Couldn't find that handy button..
Item Manager > derive

Sadly, FTP access to the LMA is no more :(

And yeah, item manager is your best friend. I wish they'd link it on each item page directly like they do for admins in addition to that dumbed down edit item button that the masses get.

not true!  you can still do ftp.  did two shows over the weekend that way.  right beside the button for "advance uploader for live music archive" is a link for ftp.   it will say

If you're uploading a live concert, please use this alternative form for the Live Music Archive.

you can ignore that and use ftp.  however you can not as the original poster asked replace files via ftp.  that has to be done via flash.

Ok. I can live with that.  My only issue with the flash is my inability to figure out how to select multiple items at once ( from that tree view)

My big issue was I forgot where the derive button was hidden.  But I'm all good now.

Thanks

Well I'll be a shit ass mule! For years now I've been going straight to http://www.archive.org/create.php?lma=1 which doesn't have that link! +T for the heady workaround!

for others

http://www.archive.org/create/

you'll see the ftp there.  they still want you to use the flash etc.  but there has been so many issues.  when it works I don't mind flash at all.

AFAIK, selecting multiple items can't be done at this time.  :-\

when replacing or uploading?  when uploading I select all the files and it does it's thing.  I just highlight them all.

Yeah, it can be done on the initial upload, but not on subsequent edit operations. There's info on it in one of the big LMA problems thread.

Right.  The workaround they suggest is to create a subfolder and move the files you want to delete in there and then delete the subfolder.  Still a pain, but better than deleting them one by one.
If you have a problem relating to the Live Music Archive (http://www.archive.org/details/etree) please send an e-mail to us admins at LMA(AT)archive(DOT)org or post in the LMA thread here and we'll get on it.

Ha.  We're so lazy these days!

Yeah, it could be easier to highlight everything and delete, but so you have to use a few extra key strokes.  Big deal.

Yeah, Jesse...just click on the main folder and create a subfolder and name it anything you want to.  Then drag and drop the old files into that newly created folder.  Once they're all there, highlight the folder and hit delete...boom!  they're all gone.

Simple!
