Sony M10 - Seamless 2GB Split?
« on: March 12, 2010, 11:25:37 PM »
SSIA...just curious if it auto splits seamlessly at 2GB and continues to record a new track?

I've scoured the various threads and have not found that answer.

Mine would not split seamlessly. See http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=136665.75

Update: this may have been a software and file format issue. More details in the above thread.

I recorded a 3 hour show the other day. No problem at all. At least I can't hear anything.

was it on an external card? 24/48?
Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

24/48 internal.

I recall hearing about issues going from the internal to external card. On the other hand I thought I saw on a Sony video that it was seemless between the internal and external. I don't have an external card (need to get one though) so I can't try it.

Seems to be an ongoing discussion in the M10 part three thread.

That, to me, would be a deal-breaker.  I've never experienced this issue with my original R09.

I'm wondering if the problem exists when "jumping" off the internal memory and onto an external card; I could see why this might happen.  It should be something that must be brought to Sony's attention and I'm guaranteeing that they'll fix that quickly because it's one ugly mother of a glitch/feature.

In the case I discussed in the M10-Part 3 thread, I tried file splitting internal > internal, internal > external and external > external memory. The same glitch occured across the seam no matter which memory was involved. I also used different sampling rates.

Well, I would then suggest all M10 owenrs who experience this issue send a technical support issue query to Sony and get them to fix it in the next firmware. I'm sure it's something that should be easily fixed at their end (it never should have happened, however, these things do and can happen).  Somebody in their QC department's gonna canned for this one I'm sure.

I doubt sony has updated the firmware on the d50 which has been out much longer than the m10.

I did not encounter the static noise issues as Carrera2 did.

I've only had mine a couple weeks, but I've recorded 24/48 on both the internal memory and external card.  In neither situation was there any problem.  The first thing I do EVERY TIME I join two files in CEP2 is to play it through the transition to make sure it's seamless.  No problems so far.

Wow, this thread had me worried. Just checked a show I taped last night, no problems with the spit on a Kingston Micro SD card.

See my update in the M10 thread: http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=136665.90 It now looks as though I have been dealing with a software and file format issue, and not a hardware issue. More testing to be done, but I'm now hopeful.

I agree, contact Sony support, however I'm not surprised. A truly sample level gapless recording is a feature that I don't think is part of their core user group's demands. The M10 isn't the only recorder I could think of that didn't have gapless playback upon shipping (fostex and m-audio have shipped units that didn't if I remember correctly)

2 recordings and 2 seemless splits, both on a card

Did you test it with a tone generator or just with random sound/noise?
