M-Audio BX8A's.....shit on relentlessly by the pro-audio community, but I think they sounds pretty nice. YMMV.

YMMV.+TWhen I was shopping for a set of monitors, I tried them against similar-sized (I forget the model numbers) Yamaha and Mackie units. I found the Mackies to be too muddy, and the Yamahas to be too treble-heavy. The BX8a set sounded just right to me.

For your budget, I would get a pair of Dynaudio bm5a. Check calistro music if you arent looking used.

Love em both, but out of budget.
