Topic: Is the mod totally necessary on 61a's?

So I thought I was going to be able to mod the 61a caps I got on my own, I do have some soldering experience, but once I got them, I realized that I'm going to have enough trouble just soldering the wires to the pads as is. Wow those are tiny. 

Will they still function as decent mics without the mod?

Mostly going to be doing some techno shows in clubs that may have a lot of bass, and outdoor festivals.

You should *always* do the mod.  Any amplified music will distort, whether it is 85, 95, or 105dBA.  I can't quantify it.  I belive Chris Church did some measurements, not sure which mics, thouigh.  But  aside from recording lectures or ambient sounds, you really want that mod.

OK, so I'm nooberific.

What size resistor?

Is there a simple diagram anywhere for this?  I do a little better visually, still trying to catch up on terminology...  I try to use the search function, but everything just takes you to the Linkwitz page eventually...

Once I do this I can just run the mics to a "standard" 9V battery box and in to recorder right?

I did not do the mod and don't use mine in super high SPLs and it's fine.

Well there's a lot of bass at the Somasphere shows, like vibrate your clothes bass.

This kind of diagram makes way more sense to me.

So, based on this... same instructions?

OK, so using the diagram i posted, put a resistor between 3k3 and 7k5 on the negative line from the mic to the battery box, right?

When you say 3k3 you mean 3,000ohm 3 watt right?

Any particular wattage on the ones in the battery box?
