Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it’s worth.

AT4041 wind screen options

What did you wind up going with?

There are a ton of Rycotes online.  What size do I need?

the shures are expensive but the DPA ones Drew originally linked me to and the ones I linked you do are affordable if lost.

I would love to get something, I just don't want to buy a product if I'm not confident it will make at least some sort of improvement.

What are your thoughts on those ones you linked me to?  Those are pretty cheap, but do you think those might do something?

i understand your concerns and I'm the same way.

I think the rycote ones are probably a LITTLE thicker than the supplied one. I'm trying to find some rycote mini wind jammer but Rycote's website looks like its got maintenance going on because the majority of the links are not working.

PM Seth from Buffalo (username bluelawn)

He has been running the 4041s for the better part of the past decade.  I'm sure he's explored the options.

Inexpensive is a relative term, I suppose.  The least expensive option, I think, would be to buy a pair of DPA UA0896 screens and then find some feux fur at your local fabric shop and make them to fit over the screens.  That will work fine for you.  Another great option is the big ass shures.  I personally use the DPA screens with a fitted Windtech Mic Muff.  The DPA screens are about $16 and the Mic Muff is about $38 (for each microphone).  I used these already this spring in a 30+ mph gusty environment and didn't hear a puff of wind on the recording.

shure a81ws are pretty standard in our crew.  I've used them on Nak300's and AKG480s.  They should fit AT pencil mics, and they deaden the wind pretty well.  Probably $30 a piece.

Yeah, I'm realizing that may be the more realistic option because I don't want to get something and it not work. I just hate paying $5 to mail foam. Maybe I'll make a bigger b&h order to make it worthwhile.

I used to use standard windscreens and put baby socks over them.....it worked great until I could afford better screens......Used to get my balls busted a little, but hey it was cheap and it worked....LOL
