ISO: Mic placement suggestions for stealth hat
« on: May 19, 2010, 04:25:12 AM »
Hi!

I know this is a rather delicate subject, but this question has been asked a couple of times.

I need some suggestions on how to mount a pair of MBHO-sized active capsules in the kind of hat that everybody seems to be using. I can't find my old hat anymore, so I might as well try a different mic configuration this time and therefore am looking for some pictures. So if you could please PM me some pictures of your hat with and without mics, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

I'm hoing to learn a bit about this too. At least perhaps some suggestions on where to find a decent looking classic fedora I could work with. (I don't like the flipped up brim on the one Kangol makes. I like a more classic, "40's gangster," style for lack of better terms.... and it's got to be BLACK. Sure hope to get some PM's, but I also understand if I don't.

If so, search & you may find it cheaper elsewhere.

No, that's got that flipped up rim I don't like.... more like this:

But I'm looking for one in straw, with the vented portion around the top, similar to this one:

Again, in that second one I don't like the brim at all. It's just not me.

Thanks for taking a look and for the reply fmaderjr!

Yeah the more I think of it, I hate that flipped up brim too. I just got a Kangol Ventair 504 cap and love it. It's so comfortable i can't even feel that the mics are in there. Way better that the baseball hat I used to use.

Truth is, it may be a month or more before I can affort the mics and pre I want. But I definately want the hat I'm going to use first. I don't want to get the mics then be scrambleing to find a darned HAT before I can get the mics into the field!

I can't get away with a Kangol. Gf says I look like an absolute tool with it on.
