Case for PMD661 Besides Porta-Brace or Marantz?
« on: July 26, 2010, 08:59:13 AM »
I am looking for a case to fit my PMD661.  Marantz makes one and Porta Brace makes one, I am wondering if anyone has found a cheper solution?  A camera or gear case that fits it perfectly?  I know I probably wont find one that has a window or button access like the ones mentioned but thats ok i just need a case for transporting it.  In use I will take it out of the case.

I also never run my recorder in the bag, which opens up your bag options.  I use tool bags to store my gear.  These bags are rugged and inexpensive.  For simple jobs (i.e. two channels) I can get mics, cables and recorder into a bag like this:

Of course, real men carry pink gear bags:

For big jobs, I use a bag like this:

This bag is a beast: large, very rugged, but inexpensive.  I can pack just about everything I own in it and it has wheels!  This bag also works great as luggage since it's so well built and it is easy to spot on the luggage carousel.  However, it is too big for a carry-on (yet another reason to take the train).

If you have only one mic stand, you don't need to have a bag for it.  But carrying multiple mic stands at once is a PITA so a bag is a good idea.  This one works well:

You can get those tool bags MUCH cheaper at Harbor Freight....especially with their million coupons ;) Those bags are actual nice I use them for many things.
