anyhoo, i got an aes/abu cable so far and the jb3//////

i planeddd on gettting the odl-312 brian proved tested and also wondered what firmware, what camw in the box, all that jazz...how many hrs does one batt go for???

cause i might have to buy 4-5 of them, also, hows the juice in the converter brian,,,,,

i know its in the archives, but im a lil sick today guyz....

Firmware just kinda depends.  Mine came with 1.32.02 and I've had no problems so far.  If I recall, I think I got a CD, manual, power cable, and battery in the box.  Fully charged battery gets me about 3 hours.  Two internal batts I assume will get me about 6 hrs.  The ODL-312 runs on 9v and draws 50 mA - I run mine off a 9.6v 1600 mAH RC battery I had lying around.

i bought a toslink from this store on ebay

only 5.99 and he pays the shipping.  he has a ton for sale, but also has a 7.99 buy it now option if you don't want to risk the bid.  its a decent cable, seems sturday and everything, but i've only had it for two weeks.  i bought a toslink>mini adapter at rat shack for 4 bux.  

i've used the new firmware to tape with but never used the seemless option yet.  however, i remember reading somewhere that someone taped a robert randolph show with it and it worked great.

thnaks guyz, one more thing, HOW DOES IT CHARGER??? do the battts come out of the jb3 and go in their own base, or do the batts + jb3 all charge together?

the batteries just stay in the nomad and charge in it.  theres also a docking bay type thing that you can put the whole nomad in to charge and run to your computer and whatnot, but its not needed.

the docking bay is extra, i never bought it.  theres a little indicator that the batteries are charging on the bottom right of the screen, when they're done it turns off.

2 batteries will usually get you between 4-6 hours.  make sure that when you get it you go into the settings and turn off the IR remote option and keep the volume turned down on it.  setting your backlight to shut off at around 3 seconds or so would probably also be good to save the battery life.

Check the Archival Info forum, Bean - I posted there with a bunch of different optical cable options.  I have 2: the Sound Pros right-angle toslink/mini cable, and a Sonicwave with toslink > mini righ-angle adapter.  So far, I've mostly used the SP cable.

I could make a batt pack for you, but in the time it takes you to hack the connector off the power supply, pack it up, and ship it to me, you can make one yourself.  Literally < 10min.  I could go buy a plug, but every plug of this style I've bought aftermarket has been a less than an ideal fit.  Drop me a PM if you're really in that big of a bind, Bean.

I'll probably upgrade to the latest firmware, but I haven't tried it yet.  I know a couple folks have over on the Yahoo NJB3Tapers group.

I'm using the latest firmware with no issues, but i haven't taken it out for a recording yet, although i did test the line in with my battery box and mics.  How do i set the timer on the backlight?  Also, what would i use an optical cable for (i guess for a outboard dac or preamp?).  Just curious.  

(currently listening to the Cranberries with my nomad+grado's and loving it)

timer on the backlight is in the settings menu, maybe under edit profile.  something like that, just go thru the menu's, you'll find it.

optical cable would be used to feed a signal to the njb3 from a ua-5 or any other adc.
