Unfortunately, that spot 45 degrees from each speaker is on the dance floor in most cases. Talk about a short career. Lol!

Yeah, don't let that fact stop you.
If you are determined, you can often overcome that problem. Maybe you can wear the microphones on your body and just stand there. Maybe you could mount the mics in the ceiling. Maybe you could put up a mic stand and have guard it so that it doesn't get hit... I find that figuring stuff like that out is part of the fun of recording.

We tapers don't always recruit our 350 pound friends to come with us to shows just for companionship, ya know?   ;)

Good info! Thanks. Amazing how a few centimeters can make such a difference. I never knew. I just always pointed mics in the general direction of the stage and hit record. I'll be re-reading these posts the rest of the week.

I've seen a few wives, some of them not particularly big, who make excellent blockers.  They have that attitude of a junk yard dog... and it's great to see them focus that energy towards someone besides the husbands on occasion.  ;D

Better yet, isn't it great when a couple of anonymous audience members (who are probably interested in getting a copy or your recording) just sorta naturally fall into formation without being asked and they start actively blocking for you?  That's when I know things are shaping up to be a great night!   :coolguy:
