Need Edirol R-44 Battery pack
« on: August 31, 2010, 11:30:20 PM »
What is the latest info on the external battery pack? I know this has been covered in older threads, but is it still the case that I need to pretty much jerry rig a power cable? Surely by now, something is already packaged to work with the R-44. What are some specific batteries being used now?

Recording stereo x 2 at 24/48 with phantom pwr I killed 4 AAs in 1 hour and they were piping hot, too.

I have a Gakable in the YS that can be used to power and R-44 with a DVD battery.

Okay, I am out of the loop. What is Gakable? What is a YS? What is a DVD battery? Pictures are not clear.

Cables aren't pictured in the thread, just a listing for the cables I have for sale.  I can add pics if you would like.

Okay, and the reason for the Y-cable is to attach a second battery? And the center pin is negative for the R-44?

And the DVD battery I should be able to pick up at Radio Shack? and a charger?

What can I expect to pay for such a setup? What do you want for the cable? Edirol support recommended Sonic Studios http://www.sonicstudios.com/batsys98.htm#bd8 but I think too expensive and bulky.

the best thing to do is look on ebay for dvd batteries and see what price you can get. about a year and two months ago some were selling for $12+ shipping for a 5400 miliamp battery but now they about double. mine came with a charger and extra tips. when buying new, they already have a charger with them.

I have a DVD player, but no way will its battery work with the R-44. What exactly am I looking for? And are the cable ports universal?

this is a dvd battery in a plastic enclosure:

this is a dvd battery on a table:

as far as I know they are the same tip.

an alternative to the ted cable is to get the following parts from radio shack:

adaptaplug b for battery and adaptaplug m for the r44.

and finally this cable:

no NOT buy this for our purposes - it is made to hook on the bottom of a portable dvd player, it does not have the typical dvd battery hook up

also if you get the battery new with cable in the box a lot of the time it comes with the correct tip needed, teds cable is nice though because you can hot swap/run 2 batteries if needed

Preamps - Naiant Littlebox & Tinybox
Recorders - PCM-M10 & DR-60D

If you see one for $25 you'll be damn lucky.  They are going for about $40-50 now

youre right, will. I didn't look carefully enough at that second battery--just the size.

i didn't realize the price of them was that high, kirk. Makes me glad I got two last year for my price. ;)

Yeah I think I grabbed the last one I that was $25.  And you'll see stuff around that price but it's 2600mAh not the 5400 or 6000 that the ones most of us have are.  I agree with ya, I wish I had grabbed some more just to have them.   I just looked and holy crap they are up to $60 now :o  Then you gotta watch out some peeps try to slam ya for shipping.  There is also recent talk about one of the bigger capacity batteries for $125 but the thing has a HUGE life and will go for a whole festival without recharging.
