Well, it was sounding great till 2min23 at which point my high end collapsed.   ::)  It sounds fine through the rest of the set but the end of the 1st track is disappointing.  I was recording with my AKG C3000s planted at the edge of the stage between the 2 vocal monitors with a MOTU MK3 Ultralite Hybrid on a 2010 Macbook Pro Bus Powered by Firewire.  Using analog in 1&2 with the MK3 pads on.  Using Wave Editor 1.4.6.  My guess is that the house sound guy switched on a compressor or turned off reverb to the monitors.  Any ideas?  I'd like to avoid this happening again if I can.  Otherwise in post I added some Silververb and EQ.  How bout some observations on the rest of the pull?   :)

Maybe the soundguy was adjusting levels? If you were wearing earplugs you should of been able to notice  this when it occured. You should wear earplugs at all shows for the obvious reasons and also you can notice things like a ripped speaker cone, etc.

Yes, I was wearing a pair of Shure earphones but I might have unplugged at that point.  My rig was back/side stage and once it was rolling and sounded good I moved out front for a few.  If you listen to the recording you'll hear that it's not just a level change.  Been taping for 12 years and wear earphones all the time.  I've never had this happen before.  I only ask because it bugs the crap out of me that an otherwise good pull got screwed up.  I was also interested in some opinions on the sound of the recording through the new interface.

Thanks for your reply,

Bruce

Where the mics elevated?

It could just be someone shifting their weight from left foot to right foot in proximity of the mics.  It's not that severe IMO.  But the clap seems to be be most affected.  via d01t01 anyway.  It is slightly annoying.  Anything odd about the venue?  Lights flicking / diming that might show power issues to justify the otherwise randomness of it.  It seems to happen a second time around 3min14.  It could also be the performer changing his orientation to his stage mic.  Given the laptop thing, perhaps the computer fan is kicking in and altering the bus power to the interface.  Maybe an external preamp or phantom power source could help.

Nothing odd about the venue.  Power seemed fine.  The mics were on a single heavy bottom stand that was between the monitors directly in front of the performer and the T-Bar was tilted slightly upward toward the performer.  I hope it wasn't the bus power.  I wasn't daisy chaining anything so it shouldn't have been a problem.  I installed a momentum XT drive in the Macbook Pro specifically to avoid daisy chaining a firewire drive and not have bus power issues.  The fan was running steadily using SMC Fan Control at 3000rpm.  It never got hot enough to make it change the fan speed.  I'll talk to the guy who did sound and see if he can shed some light on the issue.

Thanks,

Bruce
