Topic: ISO help with recording from a Fender amp

I want to record someone speaking that will be using a Sure SM-58 into a Fender amp pictured below. I have a Creative Zen V Plus mp3 player with a line in that I connected with a mono cable to the line out of the amp. I get a signal but only in the left channel. Any ideas how i can get a signal in both the left and right channels? I also have an Edirol UA-5 I can use if necessary. I'm thinking I just don't have the right cables. Thanks

I get the same result when using a stereo cable. Left channel signal only.

That's a guitar amp and as such is mono.  Anything you get from it whether line-out or from mic's is going to be mono.

You can duplicate the channel afterward or buy/create a mono-stereo cable so that you don't need to duplicate the channel later.

So the cable would need to be mono on the amp end and stereo on the recorder end right. Could I get a stereo adapter to put on the mono end that connects to the recorder?

you will need a splitter to take the mono signal from the amp
and create a 2 channels of the mono signal to feed your stereo recorder

Use a regular instrument cable to go from the amp to the adapter. Then plug the adapter into the stereo line input of your recorder.

That would be perfect to use with the cable already shown..... if rat-chack does no0t carry that part then perhaps try this http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062462 and use an 1/8'' stereo cable....... Or as mentioned above just duplicate the single channel later in post since it will be the same either way you do it since you are only dealing with a single mic.

and don't forget every time you add an adapter or other "plug" into the chain it becomes one more point of failure.

i have plenty of adapters and use them from time to time when i don't otherwise have a choice. in this case you gain nothing by using an adapter and add a potential problem.
