R-09HR Hidden Menu
« on: January 11, 2011, 02:28:46 PM »
Anybody know how to access the hidden menu that turns off the record light, etc.? I'm using version 3.00 (which I hate) I wish I could go back a couple of versions without the metronome and especially the rehearsal function which I find useless & which I keep bringing up by accident. Too bad most companies only keep the latest firmware versions on their sites.

I can do it from the test mode, but I'd rather know how to push a couple of buttons while the recorder is already on and bring up the extra functions in the menu.

I think I could do this before I didn't have access to the machine for a few months, but now I've tried for an hour an haven't a clue. I thought I kept notes on how to do this, but I seem to have lost them.

I thought I had seen a post on TS about this awhile back, maybe a search will turn up the thread?

I tried and couldn't find it (there's much more about the R-09). No big deal-I can make the changes with the test mode. I think the latest firmware might have ruined the hidden menu.

maybe this is the thread you are seeking http://taperssection.com/index.php?topic=136640.0

if not, a few more threads when you use the advanced search for "hidden menu"

That's the one I was looking for. Unfortunately, as I suspected, it no longer works with firmware version 3.00. That damn rehearsal mode that I have no use for comes on when I do that. I'll have to make my changes in the test mode.

Wish I had copies of an earlier firmware updater to go back to firmware 2.00 or any other one between that and 3.00.

^^^ I am pretty sure this is version 2.00.  It is dated August 2009; does that sound right?  The other file in the folder was instructions for upgrading to 2.00...

That's probably right, but I couldn't update. I followed update instructions and the HR just turned on-didn't try to update. I probably followed instructions OK-don't usually have trouble updating. Wish my 3.00 update had failed...

Maybe it won't "update" to an earlier version or there is something about my card the machine doesn't like.

I really appreciate your effort to help, but I guess I'll just live with 3.00. It's OK as long as I don't try to access the hidden menu (which it won't do). I have to make all changes like turning off the record light in test mode instead.

Wow, thanks for this information. I'm running version 1.6 and i tried the A-B/menu combination - and it works! You can turn off the rec LED and also the peak LED. I left the peak on for now, but no more messing with tape from now on!

The file posted by aaronji is just the update for an already installed version 2.00, that's why it won't work by itself. Here's a zip file including full version 2.00, the version manual, and the 2.00 update zip. Just tried the down grade on my R09HR and it worked fine.

Doesn't work for me either, but thanks for trying.

I'll stick with 3.0.

If you can't turn off the rec led, on the display menu set display timer to 2 sec and the rec/peak led to power save and the red light goes out after 2 seconds.

Thanks for trying to help, but if I couldn't turn it off, I'd use a bit of gaffers tape to block the light as I used to do, which works very well. That light is so bright, 2 seconds is too much.

As I said, though, I can turn the light off and make other changes using the somewhat less convenient test mode. I just can't access the hidden menu with version 3.00. It's not a big deal doing it with the test mode so I'm done with trying to roll back the firmware-it has been a big hassle trying to do so.

My pleasure; sorry to hear it didn't work out...

The file you linked to is identical to the one I attached to my previous post...

^ Yes it's the same, sorry. Somewhere down the line my eyes must have seen something that got my brain confused and led me to my post.  ;D
